Theatrical Press Agent/Labor & Communications Specialist

Maria Somma has been affiliated with Waterwell for more than 20 years. She served as a board member for several years and, after a short break, returned to the board and now serves as an Officer in the role of Secretary. She began her career as a Press Agent, working on more than 60 shows on Broadway, Off Broadway and on tour. Maria was the National Director of Communications and Spokesman for Actors’ Equity, the union representing stage actors and stage managers. Maria is an active member of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, ATPAM IATSE Local 18032. She has been a member of ATPAM’s Board of Governors and has served as the union’s President, negotiator, and as a benefits funds trustee. She currently serves on the board as Emerita and is the political coordinator for the union. In addition to her theatrical career, Maria has worked as a communications and crisis specialist across a host of industries including financial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil, and travel.
